COLIN KWOK ENGINEERING PORTFOLIO
Assignment 10
Watch-E Photo and Video

Executive Summary
Hello, this is my ME10 project Watch-E, A portable desk surveillance device. This project was made for my brother to protect his workbench from thieves. This was done by making a security system that would make alert noises and lights when an individual approaches my brother’s desk. I chose this method over other forms of security because it is easy to set up and portable.
It works by plugging the USB A adapter into a 5 volt power supply. The LED in front of the device will turn blue, indicating that it is ready and on standby. When the front button is pressed, the LED will turn yellow. The device will not make alerts while it is yellow. It indicates that the sensor will activate in 5 seconds and give the user time to step away. The sensor will then turn green and oscillate left and right over a 2 second period. Each left and right motion will be followed by a beep, serving as a warning to those who may approach. When the sensor detects something within a 20 cm radius, the alarm will trigger. The device will make alert noises and flash red and blue for 5 seconds. It will then return to its standby blue state.
Perspective Sketch

This is a concept sketch for Watch-E. The design process led to many changes. The piezo speaker was mounted into the breadboard as it was unnecessary to have it oscillate. The RGB LED was attached closer to the oscillating section to make wiring easier. The base was modified to support the Arduino and breadboard, leading to a more compact design.
